Iceland Stand Up Paddle adventure - Worldwide version

Paddle at Þingvallavatn

We traveled long hours from our hometown in the Caribbean for a great adventure near the Arctic Circle, Iceland. We had the chance to see many locations in Iceland to practice the SUP; but it is highly recommended to be with a local expert. Iceland has a volatile weather (It's the arctic!). We met new friends, Arctic Surfers ; they guided us to a great flat SUP water location next to Reykjavik. 

We traveled thru beautiful mountains to arrive to a great location with glassy waters. The day was beautiful; we paddled thru the cold water of the volcanic lake Þingvallavatn to the island of Nesjaey.

We climbed hills full of berries plants and thick moss. At the top of the hill we rest and had a lunch break; the view at the top of the hill was amazing, we had the opportunity to experience the beautiful view to be in the middle of two continents (Eurasian and North American plate). Our return was a great adventure, the wind changed (over 25++ MPH) for a great SUP downwind. 

Hills of Nesjaey

Icelanders always say, “If you do not like the weather, wait 5 minutes”; a fact, the arctic weather changes quickly. Thanks to Arctic Surfers and all the people in Iceland for a great experience."

Un viaje de muchas horas desde nuestro hogar en el Caribe preparados para una aventura cerca del circulo ártico, Islandia. Tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar muchos lugares en Islandia en el cual se puede practicar SUP; pero es altamente recomendable reclutar un experto local para visitar dichos lugares. Fue grato tener personas como ellos, ya que el clima de dicho país puede ser volátil (es el ártico). Nuestros nuevos amigos de Arctic Surfers nos guiaron a remar en aguas calmadas cerca de Reykjavik. 

Viajamos a través de bellas montañas hasta llegar a un lugar de aguas calmadas. Remamos por las aguas heladas del lago volcánico Þingvallavatn, un lugar bello con aguas cristalinas y calmadas hasta llegar a la isla de Nesjaey.

Arctic Surfers

Caminamos sus colinas llenas de plantas de moras y musgo. Tuvimos la oportunidad de almorzar en el tope de la isla con una espectacular vista del lugar, en el cual se unen dos continentes (Eurasian and North American plate). Nuestro regreso fue toda una aventura, el clima cambio trayendo vientos de sobre 25++ mph, creando un excelente “Sup Downwind” de regreso. 

Los nativos tienen una expresión muy cierta, “Si no te gusta el clima, espera 5 minutos”; una realidad ya que el clima ártico cambia rápidamente en dicho país. Gracias a Arctic Surfers y a todas las personas en Islandia por esta bella experiencia.
